WIXOM – All-State junior, Darrien Roberts collected six hits including four for extra-bases as she led her number one ranked Millington in the 2019 High School Backyard Challenge at Total Softball in Wixom, MI, this past Saturday.

The Cardinals defeated the number three ranked team in Division 1, the Howell Highlanders, by the score of 8-1 in their second game of the day.

Roberts went 4-4 with two doubles and a home run, her 11th of the year. She also drove in two runs and scored two runs.

Sydney Bishop, Hannah Rabideau, and Madi Hahn each had two hits. Bishop scored three runs and drove in one. Rabideau and Hahn each scored one run and drove in two.

Gabbie Sherman picked up her 15th win of the season throwing all seven innings striking out 11 batters and not walking anyone.

Game one of the day saw Millington tie Division 1 honorable mention ranked Grand Haven by the score of 1-1.

Rabideau drove in Sherman in the top of the seventh inning to preserve the tie of Millington.

Rabideau, Bishop, and Roberts each had two hits apiece. Sherman, Elizabeth Bees, McKenna Slough, and CC Ramirez each had one hit.

Leah Denome pitched for Millington. She threw seven innings striking out nine and walking one.

The Cardinals (28-2-1) travel to North Branch on Tuesday, May 28 to take on the Broncos (23-7) who are an honorable mention ranking in Division 2. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
