MILLINGTON – State ranked Millington hung on for two shutout wins over North Branch in Tri-Valley East play on Wednesday night. The Cards won game one 2-0 and game two by the score of 5-0.
Game one starter Gabbie Sherman, a Kent State commit, struck out 10 batters allowing only three hits and one base on ball to secure her first shutout of the season.
The Cards got on the board in the 2nd inning as Madi Hahn’s RBI single drove in Hannah Rabideau. Millington’s second run came on a solo home run by junior Leah Denome in the bottom of the sixth to give Millington a little breathing room.
Sherman threw six innings in the game two victory, She had nine strikeouts while allowing only three hits. Freshman Sabrina Gates struck out two batters during her seventh-inning appearance.
Offensively Millington was led by Denome. In her four at-bats, she had a double and her second home run of the night. Sydney Bishop also had two hits including a home run with two RBI. Darrien Roberts added a solo home run in the Millington win.
Millington (5-1, 4-0) will compete this weekend in the Frankenmuth Invitational, and then travel to Caro (3-5, 1-3) on Monday.
