Millington erased a two-point deficit after three-quarters of play to squeak out a Tri-Valley East victory over Caro by the score of 39-37.
“It was a hard-fought victory for us,” said coach Christian Selich. “We did not shoot the ball particularly well tonight, but when we needed it the most Syd and Hannah delivered at the end of the game.”
Sydney Olmstead finished the game with six points and three assists including a late three-point shot to give the Cards the lead. Hannah Hall scored the last two buckets on the backside of Caro’s zone defense. The decisive basket coming on a lob pass from Taylor Wirsing. Hall finished with eight points and eight rebounds. Wirsing finished with five points, seven rebounds, four assists, and five steals.
“Taylor has really stepped up and did all the little things for us this year,” said Christian Selich. “Every basketball team needs a player like that. Taylor has accepted that role and is flourishing in it.”
Elizabeth Selich finished the game with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
“Liz was dominant early in the game for us,” said Christian Selich. “Caro really double and triple teamed her late in the game and of course that opened some other things up for us. She has had a very nice season thus far.”
Makayla Bremer (4), Leah Denome (2), and Madison Hahn (3) rounded out the scoring for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals (3-4, 3-1), 2nd place in the TVC-East, are now off during the holiday season. They will return to the hardwood on Tuesday, January 9 when they travel to Frankenmuth to take on the Eagles.
