Two of Mid-Michigan’s premier football programs will meet Friday, November 6, when undefeated Millington hosts Ithaca in a district championship game. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Furno Field. The Cardinals enter the football playoff matchup at 10-0 after winning the Big Thumb Conference White Division championship. The Yellowjackets bring a 9-1 record and the Tri-Valley Conference Blue Division title into Friday’s contest. Together, the programs have won six state championships and made postseason football an annual expectation. Ithaca owns five state titles and has reached the playoffs in 18 consecutive seasons. Millington, the 2024 state champion, has qualified for 23 consecutive postseasons and recorded 38 consecutive winning seasons. Friday marks the fifth meeting between the schools, with the overall series tied 2-2 and the playoff series even at 1-1. Ithaca won the first meeting, 35-0 in the 2014 playoffs, before Millington answered with a 50-33 postseason victory in 2018. The Yellowjackets won 16-0 during the 2019 regular season. The Cardinals evened the series with a rain-soaked 15-14 victory in 2021. Millington has won two of the three meetings played in Ithaca. The Yellowjackets won the only previous matchup in Millington. Both teams advanced with shutout victories in the district semifinals. Millington defeated Clintondale 62-0, while Ithaca beat Valley Lutheran 49-0. Sixth-year head coach Jordan Hessbrook leads the Yellowjackets with a 54-13 record and two district championships. Millington’s Jason Germain is 55-6 in his fifth season, with four district titles, two regional championships and the 2024 state title. The Cardinals carry a 35-9 home playoff record into Friday’s game. Millington also holds a 34-10 postseason record on Fridays, a 29-26 playoff record in November and a 3-1 mark in playoff games played on Nov. 6. Tickets cost $8 per person and may be purchased in advance through the GoFan app or with a credit or debit card at the gate. Regular-season passes will not be accepted.
