Millington beats Sandusky, wins BTC White championship

SANDUSKY — The Millington varsity football team claimed the Big Thumb Conference White Division championship outright Friday night with a 42-14 victory over Sandusky. The Cardinals improved to 7-0 and secured the 23rd conference championship in program history. It is Millington’s fourth straight conference title. Millington scored on its opening possession when Layden DeLong connected with Brenden Wascher for a 41-yard touchdown. Evan Kreger added the extra point for a 7-0 lead. Drake Terwilliger scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter before DeLong added a 27-yard touchdown run. Kreger made each extra point as Millington carried a 21-0 lead into halftime. DeLong found Terwilliger for a 32-yard touchdown early in the third quarter. After Sandusky scored its first touchdown and added a two-point conversion, Terwilliger answered with a 13-yard touchdown run to give the Cardinals a 35-8 advantage. Brason Trato completed Millington’s scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Terwilliger led the Cardinals with 158 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. He also caught a 32-yard touchdown pass. DeLong rushed for 129 yards and one touchdown while completing two passes for 73 yards and two scores. Millington finished with 429 yards of offense, including 356 on the ground. The Cardinals intercepted two passes and stopped Sandusky on eight of its nine fourth-down attempts. DeLong and Collin Milostan recorded the interceptions. Evan Kreger led Millington with nine tackles, while Ben Hitsman finished with eight. Kreger made all six of his extra-point attempts. Millington will travel to Ubly for a 7 p.m. game Friday, October 16.
