Millington girls golf wins second straight regional championship

CHESANING — Millington girls golf is headed back to the state finals. The Cardinals captured their second consecutive MHSAA Division 4 regional championship Tuesday at Twin Brooks Golf Course in Chesaning, firing a team score of 385 to finish seven strokes ahead of runner-up Cass City. Event - iWanamaker Hemlock finished third with a 407, followed by Ithaca at 416 and Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart at 433. Junior Logan Matusik led the Cardinals with an 87, finishing second overall. Freshman Abbi Hoffman shot a 95 to place fifth, while freshman Courtney Matusik finished eighth with a 97. Senior Zella Hascall carded a 106, while junior Brooke Milostan added a 109. Millington’s four counting scores of 87, 95, 97 and 106 combined for the championship total of 385. The regional title adds another championship to an already successful fall for the Cardinals, who also captured the Big Thumb Conference championship last week at Ubly Heights. Millington will now make its second straight trip to the MHSAA Division 4 State Finals. The two-day tournament is scheduled for October 16-17 at The Meadows on the campus of Grand Valley State University.
