Millington rolls past Reese, clinches 38th consecutive winning season

MILLINGTON — The Millington varsity football team scored in all three phases Friday night, shutting out Reese 49-0 at Furno Field and clinching the program’s 38th consecutive winning season. Millington’s run is the longest active mark in Michigan high school football. The Cardinals improved to 6-0 with their first shutout of the season. Drake Terwilliger opened the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Evan Kreger made the first of his seven extra points to give Millington a 7-0 lead. The Cardinals took control with 21 points in the second quarter. Layden DeLong scored on runs of 24 and 25 yards and connected with Brenden Wascher for a 12-yard touchdown pass. Millington carried a 28-0 lead into halftime. DeLong returned the second-half kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, extending the lead to 35-0. Lucas Fluty added a defensive score when he intercepted a pass and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown. Eli Staffne finished the scoring with a 17-yard touchdown run later in the third quarter. DeLong led Millington with 94 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. He completed 5 of 8 passes for 62 yards and one touchdown. Staffne rushed for 62 yards and one score, while Terwilliger added 38 yards and a touchdown. Millington finished with 277 yards of offense, including 215 on the ground. The Cardinals’ defense held Reese to 68 total yards and four first downs. The defense forced five turnovers, recovering three fumbles and intercepting two passes. Fluty had an interception, a sack and three tackles. Liam Kreger recorded the other interception, while Gauge Woelzlein and Staffne also registered sacks. Millington will travel to Sandusky for a 7 p.m. game Friday, October 9.
