MILLINGTON — Layden DeLong accounted for five touchdowns as the Millington varsity football team defeated Caro 48-7 on homecoming Friday night at Furno Field. DeLong scored on 4- and 2-yard runs in the first quarter, and Evan Kreger made both extra points to give Millington a 14-0 lead. The Cardinals added 20 points in the second quarter. DeLong scored on 10- and 24-yard runs before connecting with Kreger for a 9-yard touchdown pass. Millington carried a 34-0 lead into halftime. Eli Staffne scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter, and Gauge Woelzlein added a 1-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Kreger made both extra points as the Cardinals extended their lead to 48-0. Caro avoided the shutout when Mason Henry connected with Brady Parker for a 40-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Millington finished with 379 yards of offense, including 322 on the ground. DeLong led the Cardinals with 104 rushing yards and four touchdowns on eight carries. He also completed 6 of 8 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown. Drake Terwilliger added 73 yards on eight carries, while Staffne finished with 58 yards and a touchdown. Coleton Schisler gained 42 yards on his only carry. Kreger caught three passes for 30 yards and a touchdown. Liam Kreger added two receptions for 14 yards, while Staffne had one catch for 13 yards. Millington’s defense held Caro to 57 rushing yards and eight first downs. The Cardinals intercepted three passes, with Terwilliger, Easton Myers, and Evan Kreger each recording one. Brason Trato had two sacks, while Staffne and Ben Hitsman combined for another. Millington improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in Big Thumb Conference White Division play. The Cardinals will travel to Cass City on Friday, September 25.
