MILLINGTON — The Millington varsity football team rushed for 388 yards and pulled away from Laker for a 43-16 victory Friday night at Furno Field. Laker struck first on Lucas Wehner’s 45-yard field goal, but Millington answered with 20 points in the second quarter. Layden DeLong connected with Liam Kreger for a 12-yard touchdown and found Brenden Wascher for an 11-yard score. Ben Hitsman then returned a fumble 32 yards for a touchdown before DeLong ran in the two-point conversion, giving the Cardinals a 20-3 halftime lead. Drake Terwilliger opened the third-quarter scoring with a 6-yard touchdown run. DeLong followed with a conversion pass to Brandon Dickie to extend the lead to 28-3. Laker answered when Benjamin LeVasseur connected with Lucas Lesoski for a 14-yard touchdown. Millington responded with a 14-yard touchdown run by Hudson Myers, followed by Eli Staffne’s conversion run, giving the Cardinals a 36-9 advantage after three quarters. DeLong finished Millington’s scoring with a 44-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Evan Kreger added the extra point. Laker’s Matthew Murdoch scored on a 2-yard run later in the quarter. Terwilliger led Millington with 132 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. DeLong added 121 yards and two scores on 11 attempts, while Staffne gained 80 yards on five carries. The Cardinals averaged 9.5 yards per rushing attempt. DeLong completed three passes for 33 yards and two touchdowns. Wascher caught two passes for 21 yards and a score, while Kreger’s only reception went for a 12-yard touchdown. Millington’s defense held Laker to 106 rushing yards. Terwilliger intercepted two passes and finished with nine total tackles. Brason Trato recorded a team-high 10 tackles, while Collin Milostan added seven. The Cardinals improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in Big Thumb Conference White Division play. Millington will host Caro at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
