VASSAR — Millington girls golf continued its strong run through the Big Thumb Conference on Wednesday, winning the league jamboree at Willow Springs Golf & Country Club with a season-best nine-hole team score of 179. The Cardinals finished 16 strokes ahead of runner-up Cass City, which shot a 195. Sandusky placed third at 218, followed by Ubly at 221, Bad Axe at 232, Caro at 241, Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Laker at 245 and Akron-Fairgrove at 254. Junior Logan Matusik earned medalist honors, firing a 42 to lead the field. Freshman Abbi Hoffman was right behind her with a 44 to finish second, while senior Zella Hascall gave Millington three of the top three individual scores with a 45. Freshman Courtney Matusik added a 48 and finished fifth overall, giving the Cardinals four golfers among the top five. Those four rounds combined for Millington's 179. Junior Brooke Milostan shot a 53, while junior Lola Ratza finished with a 55 to round out the Millington lineup. The victory was Millington's third consecutive BTC jamboree win. The Cardinals previously took first at Rolling Hills in Cass City and Woodland Hills in Sandusky. Millington has a quick turnaround and will return to the course Thursday, Sept. 10, for the rescheduled BTC jamboree at Ubly Heights Golf Course.
