The Millington junior varsity volleyball team finished a busy Saturday on a high note, winning the silver bracket championship at the Mt. Morris Invitational. The Cardinals went 3-2 on the day. Millington dropped matches to Divine Child and Plymouth before defeating Carman-Ainsworth. The Cardinals then found their stride in bracket play, defeating Detroit Martin Luther King before knocking off Lutheran Northwest in three sets to claim the silver bracket championship. Brynnlee Watts led Millington from the service line with 18 aces while adding a team-high 26 digs. Aubrey Wascher recorded 25 digs, and Annabelle Pennell added 23. Taylor Watson directed the offense with 42 assists. Emma Garl led the Cardinals at the net with 16 kills and four blocks, while Mia Wagner added 11 kills. Johanna Holzwarth finished with two blocks. After dropping its first two matches, Millington responded by winning its final three, including a three-set victory over Lutheran Northwest for the tournament title. The Cardinals are now 5-3-1 on the season and will continue their season on Tuesday, September 8 at Laker High School.
