LAPEER — The Millington girls golf team continued its strong start to the season Friday, placing eighth out of 20 teams at the Lapeer Lightning Tune-Up Invitational at Lapeer Golf & Country Club. The tournament featured a large field made up primarily of Division 1 programs. Junior Logan Matusik once again led the Cardinals, firing a team-best 91. Matusik entered the tournament after shooting an 80 in Millington’s season opener at The Timbers. Freshmen Abbi Hoffman and Courtney Matusik continued their early-season contributions. Hoffman carded a 97, while Courtney Matusik finished with a 104. Junior Brooke Milostan added a 114, and senior Zella Hascall shot 118. The eighth-place finish gave Millington another solid showing against a field of larger schools early in the season and came just four days after the Cardinals placed second at their season-opening invitational. Millington now turns its attention to Big Thumb Conference competition. The Cardinals will travel to Rolling Hills Golf Course in Cass City on Tuesday, Aug. 25, for their first BTC jamboree of the season.
