MILLINGTON — Millington softball captured a Division 3 district championship on its home field Saturday, defeating Almont 11-3 in the semifinal before rolling past LakeVille 9-1 in the championship game. The district crown sends the Cardinals into regional play with a 24-13 record. Millington will travel to Bad Axe on Saturday, June 6, to face Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest in a regional semifinal scheduled for 12 p.m. The Cardinals opened the day by pounding out 12 hits in an 11-3 victory over Almont. Millington scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back, adding four more in the sixth to put the game away. Karlie Sherman led the offense with three hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs. Chleyenne Pashby added two hits and three RBIs, while Kamryn Blackmer and Ashlyn Bentoski each collected two hits. Makenna Klauka scored three runs and Zella Hascall drove in a run as the Cardinals received contributions throughout the lineup. Bentoski earned the win in the circle, allowing five hits and no earned runs while striking out nine in a complete-game effort. In the championship game, Millington broke open a close contest with a five-run sixth inning to defeat LakeVille 9-1 and secure the district trophy. Bentoski was dominant once again, scattering five hits over seven innings while allowing just one unearned run and striking out six. During the championship victory, Bentoski surpassed the 200-strikeout mark for the season, adding another milestone to an outstanding junior campaign. The Cardinals backed their ace with a balanced offensive attack. Bentoski helped her own cause by going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. Sherman added two doubles and three RBIs, while Logan Matusik drove in two runs. Blackmer, Pashby and Hascall each contributed extra-base hits as Millington finished with 10 hits. The district championship is Millington’s latest accomplishment in a season that already included a Big Thumb Conference White Division title. Now the Cardinals will turn their attention to regional play, where they will meet Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest at noon on Saturday in Bad Axe with a trip to the regional final on the line.
