The Millington Jr. High track teams competed in Frankenmuth on Tuesday against Freeland, St. Lorenz, and Frankenmuth. Dallas Walsh had a record setting day as he broke the 100 meter record with a time of 11.35. The previous record was set in 1990 by M. Johnson with a time of 11.51. Walsh later broke Chase Maxon’s 2011 record in the 200 (24.68) as he crossed the line in 24.50. Second place finishers included Logan Myers (70 meter, 9.53), Garett Woodward (200 meter hurdles, 33.33 & long jump, 12’ 11.25”), and Walsh (shot put 40’ 5”). Meyers added a pair of third places in the shot put (31’ 5”) and the 200 meter hurdles (34.71).
Reese Gohsman and Chloe Basner paced the girls with a pair of first places finishes. Gohsman won the 100 meter (13.58) and 400 meter (1:08.38) races, while Basner claimed victory in the 70 meter (9.38) and 200 meter hurdles (33.25). The standout pair rounded out their days with second place finishes. Gohsman finished second in the 200 meter hurdles (33.53) and Basner’s heave of 24’ 7” was good for second in the shot put. Kendra Peterson rounded out top 5 finishers with her 4th place toss of 22’ 6” in the shot put.
The Jr. High Cardinal track team returns to action Tuesday, May 4 as they head to Birch Run to take on Birch Run and Nouvel. The first event is slated to start at 4:00 p.m.
