SAGINAW – Millington’s Rebekah Williams was named First Team All-Conference by the soccer coaches of the Tri-Valley East Conference at the all-league meeting held at Swan Valley High School on Sunday, June 2. Williams, a senior Midfielder, was one of 17 field players selected from the conference for honors, while one goalkeeper was selected to round out the first team.
“Rebekah was our emotional leader and team captain this season,” Millington coach Andrew Selich said. “She is one of the hardest workers I have ever coached, and to be recognized for that is rewarding. We like to tell the girls that hard work pays off. Rebekah is proof of that.”
In 17 games this season for Millington, Williams recorded four goals and five assists. From her position as the Defensive Midfielder, Williams led the team with 97 steals.
The Cardinals also had three players selected as Honorable Mention All-Conference. Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Bees was the only keeper in the conference to earn Honorable Mention status. This season, Bees recorded 248 saves, 174 of those of which came in her seven league games. That’s an average of 24.9 saves per game in conference play.
Midfielder Sarah Simpson was also selected Honorable Mention All-Conference. Simpson, a sophomore, led the Cardinals with seven goals and had 44 steals. Forward Vanessa Selich was the final Honorable Mention selection for Millington. Selich led the Cardinals with 14 points, scoring six goals, eight assists, and had 31 steals during the 2019 season.
