The Millington varsity girls track team claimed victory in the 9 team field at the Akron-Fairgrove Invitational. Gold medal finishers were Austin Palmer (800M, 2:35.72) and Isabelle Basner (Shot Put, 28’9”). Palmer added a second in the long jump (12’2”) and teamed with Madeline Horton, Hannah Thomas, and Emily Bailey in the 1600M Relay (4:50.92) for another second place finish. Emily Bailey garnered 2nd place points in the 200M (31.66). Hailey Crump provided team points in three events as she finished 2nd in the 100M (15.06), 4th in the 200M (32.00), and tied for 6th in the high jump (4’2”). The 3200M Relay of Olivia McVay, Horton, Thomas, and Palmer (11:42.20) and the 400M Relay of Bailey, Basner, Emma Hoard, and Olivia Schell (59.56) both ended in 3rd place. Makenzi Alexander had a busy night as she placed 3rd in the 300M Hurdles (1:01.55), 4th in the 100M Hurdles (21.76), and tied for 6th in the high jump (4’2”). Horton added 3rd place points in the 1600M (6:12.03) and 4th place points in the 800M (2:52.95). Rounding out point winners for the Cardinals included Thomas (4th, 400M, 1:13.62), Cassie Bukoski (5th, Discus, 79’1”), McVay (5th, 3200M, 14:32.73), and Chloe Bremer (6th, 100M, 15.43).
Jack Shreve paced the Cardinal boys to a 3rd place finish. He was a double winner in the 100M (11.76) and 200M (23.63). Shreve added 2nd place points in long jump (17’4”) and 3rd place points in the 400M (54.21). Waylon Hanel was the gold medal winner of the 300M hurdles (45.70) and claimed silver in the 110M hurdles (18.92). Logan Gutierrez claimed victory in the 3200M (10:36.46) and finished 3rd in the mile (4:57.99). Andrew Revord claimed 5th place points in the long jump (16’6”) and 6th place points in the 300M hurdles (48.90). Rounding out point winners for the Cardinals included Matt Lewis (4th, Shot Put, 38’), Logan Curtis (4th, High Jump, 5’4”), and David Tebedo (5th, 400M, 57.28).
The JV Cardinal track team returns to action Monday, May 13 at the Frankenmuth Invitational. The varsity track team competes at the MHSAA Regional meet on Friday, May 17 in Brown City.
