DETROIT – At the individual wrestling finals this past weekend at Little Caeser’s Arena, both of Millington’s qualifying wrestlers placed to become All-State. Sophomores Jack Sherman and Hunter Norris each brought home some hardware. Sherman finished in third place in the 112-pound weight class of Division 3. Norris finished in sixth place in the 119-pound weight class of Division 3.
Sherman, who finished the season with a record of 43-8, split his lost his second match of the tournament. After the loss, he would have to win four straight matches in order to finish in third place. He defeated Ryker Johncheck of Williamston in a 10-8 decision, Michael Silva of Shelby in a 47-second pinfall, and Austin Fietz of Dundee in a 7-4 decision. In the third and fourth place match, Sherman would defeat Kanon Atwell for the second time in the tournament in a 6-2 decision.
Norris, who finished the season with a record of 42-7, defeated Will Kidder of Shelby in a 9-7 decision and Thomas May of Grayling in a 7-4 decision in his first two matches of the tournament. Unfortunately, he would lose his next two matches for a sixth-place finish.
