Valparaiso is a private university located in Valparaiso, Indiana. Commonly known as Valpo, the university is a co-ed four-year Lutheran institution that enrolls about 4,500 students from over 50 countries on a campus that spans 350 acres. The football team, known as the Crusaders compete in the Pioneer Football League as a Division 1-FCS team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
“I really liked the culture at the school,” Sherman replied when asked by Millington Athletics why he chose Valpo. “The coaches at the school really stress pushing us to the next level. Whether that is trying to get us to the NFL, getting us to an all-conference athlete, or an academic All-American they will help us get to that point. Plus it has always been a dream of mine to play DI football.”
Valparaiso is organized into five undergraduate colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, Nursing and Health Professions, and Christ College.
“I am thinking about Sports Managment or the nursing program at Valpo,” said Sherman when asked about what he will pursue academically. “I heard from some students that the nursing program is very rigorous there. That would not deter me or anything, I just need to see how it would fit my schedule.”
Over two-thirds of entrants at Valpo graduate in the top quarter of their high school class. Sherman carries a grade point average above a 4.0 and will most certainly finish in the Top 10 of Millington’s graduating class of 2018.
“Their recruiting coach came to the school (Millington) last year and talked to me after seeing me at a camp at Northwestern,” said Sherman when asked about the recruiting process. “We have been communicating over text and I got a chance to visit this past weekend.”
“I have been recruited as a defensive back,” replied Sherman when asked about his position. “I am not sure yet if it will be safety or corner.”
Millington Athletics would like to congratulate Kohlton and wish him the best of luck!
