Millington defeated Essexville-Garber 77-37 on Thursday, setting a school record for points scored in a game, which previously stood at 75.
Millington’s Molly Wolfington scored 21 points, Elizabeth Selich scored 14, and Haley Trickey and Ashlee Chema scored 12 apiece. Garber’s Carlie Hepinstall led her team with 13 points.
“It has been a really frustrating month,” said Millington coach Aaron Chamberlain. “I think when we had a little success, the floodgates just opened for us. It wasn’t really about the margin of victory. We played hard, the girls had some success and that success multiplied as the night went on.”
Chamberlain said he was proud of his young team.
“We passed up a lot of good shots tonight to get someone else a better one,” he said. “The girls played very unselfishly.”
Garber coach Kimberly Klein said her team struggled with Millington’s defense.
“We just could not match their defensive intensity,” she said. “The longer the game went, the worse it got. They got after it, there’s no doubt about that, and they took it to us. We need to regroup and get back to the basics.” Article courtesy of MLive.
